Healthcare reform is one of the key domestic issues for Congress and the Obama Administration this year. Reform legislation has already passed five congressional committees, and the House and Senate will likely agree on a single bill for the president to sign by the end of the year. What will be included in the legislation, and how it will affect health insurance agents, brokers and benefit specialists? Michael Keegan, Director of State Affairs, will discuss the federal healthcare reform efforts and review what the legislation means for the industry.

- The participant will know what the prospects for healthcare reform legislation is in 2009, how reform will affect them and the larger industry, how reforms will restructure the existing market, and a likely timetable for reforms to be implemented in 2010 and beyond.
About Michael Keegan:
Michael Keegan is Director of State Affairs for the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) based in Arlington, VA. Prior to joining NAHU, Michael served as Director of State Government and Public Affairs at DCI Group, a Washington-based consulting firm, where he managed lobbying and public relations campaigns for Fortune 500 clients in the firm’s communications practice. Previously, Michael worked at the American Legislative Exchange Council, the nation’s largest nonpartisan, individual membership association of state legislators, managing policy and strategy on insurance issues, tax and fiscal policy, and financial services modernization. Michael also managed state lobbying efforts at the former Health Insurance Association of America. A graduate of LeMoyne College and the University of Virginia, Michael and his family reside in Northern Virginia.
