Session 1 (1 hour):
‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ - New and Modified HR and Benefit Compliance Issues for 2008

2008 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Employee Benefit and HR Managers. Regulatory agencies like The IRS, the DOL and States have issued a plethora of new and modified rules that impact employer provided benefit plans. This session will cover some of the most important aspects of these changes and what employers should be doing to prepare.

  • New IRS Cafeteria Plan Regulations
  • New 5500 Reporting Rules
  • Minnesota Dependent Definition and Imputed Income
  • Final HSA Comparability Regulations
  • New DOL FMLA Regulations and Their Effect on Benefit Plans

Session 2 (1 hour):
Benefit Issues Related to Employee Leave

Employees need for leave raises many benefit issues which, if improperly handled, raises the risk of liability for employers. Unfortunately most employers do not address many of these issues until they are in the middle of a difficult situation. This session will focus on what can, and should, happen to an employee’s health and welfare benefits during a variety of leave scenarios.

  • Insurance Coverage During an Unpaid Leave
  • Reinstatement of Benefits after Military Leave
  • A Leave’s Effect on Cafeteria Plan Elections
  • COBRA and Employee Leave

About the Speaker: Bob Radecki has over 20 years experience in the HR and employee benefits industry helping employers deal with difficult benefit and compliance matters. Bob founded, and for over 10 years, served as President of A.E. Roberts Company, a nationally recognized compliance consulting and training firm. Bob was also the principal HIPAA consultant to a number of health insurance companies, and is recognized as a leading expert on a variety of benefit compliance issues including COBRA, FMLA, CDHP rules and more. Bob has been the featured speaker at many industry events and conferences and has published a number of articles concerning various compliance issues.
