Cafeteria Plan Proposed Regulations

Speaker: Scott A. Wold, Esq.
The course will cover the tax code rules applicable to cafeteria plans. Arrangements that constitute cafeteria plans will be identified. Rules regarding plan documents, elections, qualified benefits, and nondiscrimination, as contained in the new proposed regulations, will be discussed.
At the end of this presentation, the participants will be able to:
- Identify an employer’s need for a cafeteria plan.
- Explain to employers the importance of complying with the tax code.
- Spot common compliance issues arising with cafeteria plans.
- Better assist employers when hiring third parties to provide services for a cafeteria plan.
Scott Wold (J.D., with honors, Southern Methodist University) is a senior associate at Hitesman & Associates, P.A. who practices in the area of employee benefits. He advises clients regarding compliance with the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, FMLA, and state insurance laws. Mr. Wold represents for-profit, non-profit, and governmental entities. His clients include third party service providers, health care providers, plan sponsors, employers, and benefits consultants. Mr. Wold is a frequent speaker on various employee benefits issues.
